Technique Card Strip Series - #1 - Colors Sponged Over White Resist

Sometimes when you get into a groove, you come out the other side and say... wow, look what we made today! Libby and I had a great virtual crafting session that ended up morphing into a technique day. At the end Libby says hey look, we made a bunch of strip cards!

I will bundle these into a series of blog posts. I may include a demo video or two but this first one is an easy one that has been around forever.  We did start with this pin for inspiration > pin link. Of course immediately other ideas pop into our heads and we end up some degree off from the inspiration and from each other. It is very fun to craft this way!

Using a full A2 card front in Whisper White, stamp and white heat emboss a scene, in this case we knew we would be making a strip so I focused my stamping in the middle extending from the top to the bottom vertically. 

The only trick is in seeing when the white embossing has actually melted. I made the mistake of touching the lower flower which disturbed the grains. My fix to was to cover that corner of flower with the sentiment.

As we were discussing the game plan, Libby mentioned using a sparkle white embossing powder.

I thought that was a great idea!

I recently collected all of my embossing powders and texture paste into a dollar store container with labels and remember labeling a clear "glitter" powder that must be at least 30 years old.

I figured it would be fun to mix my own "sparkle" embossing powder so I used a teaspoon to mix 1/2 White Stampin' Emboss with 1/2 clear glitter embossing powder and voila I now have my own white glitter heat embossing powder.

I used a very small screw top dollar store container, like what you would perhaps use for carrying a sauce in your lunch. 

The rest of the card layout Is just a strip at 2 3/16" wide, adhered offset. Added touches include sponging the darkest color around the edges, distressing the edges and/or add thin side mats. I left this one untouched with no mat.

White elegant faceted gems and polka dot trim finish this card off nicely.

The second image is a close up of the sentiment die which comes with the Tasteful Touches bundle. I like the double embossed lines for something a bit different, in fact this die set includes many label sizes and shapes with varying embossed edges including lines and dots.
