I had made my aunt the cutest birthday card ever using a Whimsy Stamp called Wee Snippet (Ive linked the details on that project below). THEN I saw the Sale A Bration catalog and knew that I had to get the free Hey Chick! stamp set and use it instead of Wee Snippet for my aunt's birthday card. She raises chickens for their eggs and is really into that whole process and I just knew this had to be done for her.

I've seen the tall stacked Hey Chick! style cards on Pinterest and had settled on that design long before my set arrived. To meet the minimum required I had to make an additional purchase and my demonstrator worked her magic to get me a Halloween Grunge background set from the holiday catalog. (I will not go into detail here, but these stamp companies have lots of sets expiring and arriving with strict start and end dates, even with these rules, she did manage get me both sets).

In that Halloween set is a great chicken-wire looking background so I stamped it randomly around on the page in Memento London Fog ink. I trimmed it out to be a 9 x 4 sized card. I added a couple of the cute phrases that come with the set and then dug through my collection of "Happy Birthday" sentiments looking for a vertical aligned one. I found the perfect on in a Close To My Heart set, it is long retired, I paid $5 for it at a sale.

I thoroughly enjoyed making this card. After I'd added the two thin mats and cut the base I was not satisfied. I didn't know what more it needed. I added the orange and white Baker's Twine. It still wasnt enough. To my eye, the empty spaces around the chicken wire needed something. I am sure others would have gone with more random stamping, but I guess I was in a washi tape mood. I VERY rarely use my washi tape. I have gathered a sizable collection of it, mostly buying in bulk on Ebay (I bought my stickles the same way, in bulk). Finally I was satisfied.

Here's the Copic Colors I used.

middle chicken R30, R35, R37,
